NIGHT BEFORE DEPARTURE

2006-11-12 21:12:33

You'd think with several months to prepare all that was needed was to close the suitcase and go to bed. Unfortunately not the case. I'm presently typing this from the office where I stilll have 18 student evaluations to prepare and since most require creative writing I'll be here awhile .

As most of you know this month-long journey is taking me to Kenya where I'll board the Marc Polo for a trip around the Cape of Good Hope and wind up in Rio. I've been on the Marco Polo before- the first time was in 2005 to Antarctica and included a stop at the island of Siouth Georgia. This past February again went to Antarctica and this time stopped at the Falkland Islands . So now I'm all caught up on Shackelton's journeys.

This trip includes a couple of days in Kenya before boarding the ship in Mobassa with stops at Zanzibar, the Comoros, Madagascar, Durbin and Cape Town, South Africa, Namibia and then across the South Atlantic to the island of St Helena and finally Rio. It's 5 sailing days from St Helena to Rio and I'll probably need that time to catch up on Blogs. Somewhere along the way I hope to learn how to up-load photographs to make this a more interesting story.

I leave on Delta from Cincinnati to JFK, then an overnight flight to Heathrow on British Air and the same carrier on to Nairobi arriving at 9:30pm. After a day in Nairobi will spend a night at the safari lode in Amboseli and another night at Tsavo before taking the bus to Mombassa. So stay tuned for further developments.
